Taiwan implements compulsory inspection of textile products

A few days ago, Taiwan's relevant departments imposed compulsory inspection systems on textile products that were manufactured, sold, or imported into the Taiwan region in different categories.

The Bureau of Standards and Inspections (BSMI) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan will implement a compulsory inspection system for textile products manufactured, sold or imported into Taiwan in different categories. Including infants and young children wearing clothing and clothing accessories (in 24 months or babies under 86cm in height) on July 1, 2011, and towels, sweaters, ready-to-wear, swimwear, hosiery, bedding, etc. For January 1, 2012.

After the implementation of this system, textiles imported to Taiwan must meet a number of requirements to pass the mandatory inspection system before they can enter the Taiwan market. These include compliance with CNS 15290 Textile Safety Code (General Requirements) and attachments to products, hangtags, or other packaging materials. There are commodity inspection marks. CNS15290 main test items are: free formaldehyde, AZO, lead content, cadmium content, organic tin and so on. In addition, Taiwan authorities have banned retailers from selling textiles that do not have product inspection marks attached.

The inspection system imposes stricter requirements on textile products and is more in line with the requirements of countries such as the European Union. The implementation of this inspection system will greatly increase the technical barriers to textiles that have been imported into Taiwan and form new technical trade barriers.
