Where are the white sapphires distributed?

The different colors exhibited by the members of the corundum series are caused by a small amount of metal oxide impurities. Corundum-free corundum (hence colorless) is rare and, once found, is attributed to white sapphires. Gemstones consisting of different colors, including colorless areas, are more common. Such gemstones need to be cut by the craftsman to adjust the direction so that the color is at the bottom. When viewed from top to bottom, the color is filled with gemstones.

Pure white sapphires are distributed in Sri Lanka, and there are also sapphire or milky white sapphires, which are called “genuda” in the local area. They become sapphires after heat treatment and are used as jewels after faceting. Some jaundices in Sri Lanka are red, blue and colorless and are used as jewels after faceting.
