This summer, we’re thrilled to introduce some fantastic new digital sewing patterns to the Oliver + S shop and showcase the work of several talented independent designers and pattern makers. To kick things off, we’re delighted to welcome Kennis Wong of Itch to Stitch Designs to the blog today. You can find the entire collection of Itch to Stitch patterns right now in the Oliver + S shop. After reading Kennis’s introduction, head over there to explore her designs. Here’s Kennis.
Hi! My name is Kennis Wong, and I’m the owner and designer behind Itch to Stitch Designs. I’m incredibly honored to have my sewing patterns included in the Oliver + S lineup. Let me tell you a bit about myself and share my sewing and design journey.
I learned dressmaking when I was 13 in Hong Kong. The first things I ever made were a pair of shorts and a baby dress, and I was so proud of them. I’m not sure why my school only had treadle machines—electric ones were definitely around—but I managed to use those to create my projects. Sewing was something I immediately took to; it felt natural and calming. Ever since, it’s been my lifelong passion.
For many years, sewing was just a hobby for me. My professional life was completely separate, revolving around technology, marketing, analytics, and product/project management. Given my background, I’m naturally detail-oriented and disciplined—qualities that have served me well while designing sewing patterns and writing instructions.
In 2014, my husband and I decided to make a significant change in our lives. Moving to Costa Rica had always been our dream, so after years of dreaming, we left our corporate jobs and relocated to the jungle on New Year’s Day. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I’d do for work, but I knew we’d figure it out eventually. Worst-case scenario? We’d return to the U.S. and find new jobs.
As it turned out, I discovered what I truly wanted: a job that I loved and looked forward to every day. Combining my decades of sewing experience with formal design and drafting training seemed like the perfect path. Before moving, I had taken apparel design and draping courses at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, and I absolutely loved it.
That’s how Itch to Stitch came to be.
Life has a funny way of working out. Who would’ve thought that my teenage dressmaking classes would lead to a career I’d grow to adore?
My sewing expertise plays a key role in Itch to Stitch patterns. They’re known for their thorough and innovative instructions, ensuring high-quality results. I understand the challenges beginners face because I’ve been there myself. I’ve also struggled with unclear instructions in countless patterns, so I’ve walked in your shoes. When traditional techniques fall short compared to ready-to-wear methods, I reverse-engineer store-bought clothes to make these techniques accessible to home sewists.
The style of Itch to Stitch reflects my personal taste—modern, elegant, and practical for everyday wear. Comfort and beauty go hand in hand. No one should feel uncomfortable all day in their clothes. My goal is for anyone who uses an Itch to Stitch pattern to feel great wearing what they’ve made.
Fit is crucial in my patterns. Each design is rigorously tested by women of varying sizes and body types. Many patterns also offer multiple cup sizes, ensuring a great fit with minimal adjustments.
Now, let me show you a few of my favorite Itch to Stitch patterns.
**Marbella Dress**

The Marbella Dress was Itch to Stitch’s first pattern and remains my most popular. This elegant boat-neck dress is sleeveless and combines a fitted bodice with either a tulip skirt or a half-circle skirt. Available in A, B, C, and D cup sizes, the pattern includes instructions for lining or unlined versions. And yes, it has pockets—seam pockets, no less!
**Lisbon Cardigan**

The Lisbon Cardigan is endlessly versatile. Once you’ve made one, you’ll probably want to make several more. The pattern offers options for long and three-quarter sleeves, along with long and cropped bodies. Its adaptability earned the Lisbon Cardigan the “Best Debut Pattern of 2016†award from PatternReview.
**Bonn Shirt and Dress**

The Bonn Shirt and Dress pattern is another bestseller from Itch to Stitch. It’s available in A, B, C, D, and DD cup sizes, with options for shirts and dresses, as well as long, three-quarter, short, and flared sleeves. One of my favorite features is the V-neck with a modified mandarin collar.
There are plenty more patterns I adore, but I’ll stop here. Head over to my section of the Oliver + S shop to discover some of your own favorites!
